Darjeeling

  History of Darjeeling started by the arrival of Dr. Campbell in 1839 and he’s the first superintendent in Darjeeling who was transferred to from Kathmandu, Nepal to Darjeeling. British Government put tea nurseries after the success of the experiment carried out by him. This the turning point of Darjeeling tea industry. By 1905, 117 tea garden were in Darjeeling.

  Traditional Darjeeling tea is black tea. But today 87 tea estates which are covering over 17,500 hectares, produce greens, whites, and oolongs as well. India produces the second most tea in the world but the production volume in Darjeeling is only 1 %.
