About Mei Jia Wu Long Jing Tea(梅家坞龙井茶)
West Lake Long Jing tea (西湖龙井茶)is one of the ten most famous teas in China, with a history of more than 1,200 years, and was designated as a first-grade tea in the Ming Dynasty, while Emperor Shunji of the Qing Dynasty designated it as an offering tea. When the Qing Emperor Qianlong visited West Lake in Hangzhou, he praised Longjing tea and named 18 tea trees in front of Hugong Temple under Lion Peak Mountain as "imperial tea".
Long Jing tea is produced in the West Lake area of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and is emerald green in colour, rich in fragrance, mellow and refreshing, shaped like a bird's tongue, and has four characteristics: green colour, rich fragrance, sweet taste and beautiful shape. Long Jing tea can be divided into three types according to the region of origin: 'West Lake Long Jing', 'Qian Tang Long Jing' and 'Yue Zhou Long Jing', except for the 168 sq km region of West Lake called 'West Lake Long Jing', the remaining two regions are known as 'Long Jing tea', generally known as Zhe Jiang Long Jing tea.
The quality and taste of Mei Jia Wu Long Jing tea (梅家坞龙井茶)are important indicators of its grade. Mei Jia Wu Long Jing tea is grown in Meiyuan Village, West Lake District, Hangzhou, where the climate, soil and other conditions are very suitable for tea tree growth. It can be said to be one of the "West Lake Long Jing" in the three aforementioned classifications, but Mei Jia Wu Long Jing tea is also very particular about plucking, and is usually picked around Qingming Festival, mainly from young buds of one bud and only one leaf.
Long Jing tea(龙井茶)is made from one of eight varieties, but this Mei Jia Wu Long Jing tea is made from a variety called the Guntao variety. The Shi Feng Long Jing tea, the earliest variety of Long Jing tea and the most highly regarded of all Long Jing teas, is said to be of the Guntao variety(群体种). Generally, this variety is harvested later than other varieties, around the Qingming Festival. This variety is limited to West Lake production and has a very limited area.
