About Dianhong Golden Snail
Jinluo (金螺) namely Golden Snail is a well-balanced, medium-bodied black tea from Ning'er Hani Yi Autonomous County, Puer City, Yunnan Province, China. Jinluo refers to the shape of this black tea and to the small scroll shell shape similar to that of the famous green tea Bi Luo Chun.
Ning'er Hani Yi Autonomous County is located in Puer City and the autonomous county is home to many Hani and Yi ethnic groups, who also live in Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Although the tradition of black tea dates back hundreds of years (tea cultivation in the region is estimated to have started between 2,000 and 2,200 years ago, with the use of tea dating back even earlier), black tea production is a relatively new trend in this part of China. The first black tea was produced in Fengning Manchu Autonomous Prefecture around 1938. The tea was so popular that black tea production quickly spread throughout Yunnan. The rise in popularity was largely due to the balanced and smooth flavour of Yunnan black tea, which has a full-bodied, sweet malty flavour without the astringency of many other teas.
