China

Although China is a large country, it does not produce tea throughout its entire territory. Nevertheless, China is the world’s largest producer of tea. And it produces six types of tea: white tea, yellow tea, green tea, blue tea (oolong tea), black tea and black tea. 80% of total production is green tea, which is consumed domestically in China.

To give an example, a typical example of Chinese green tea is Longjing tea. Longjing tea was named after the village of Longjing, located west of West Lake, where it was produced. Today, the four most famous production areas are Shifeng, Hupao, Yunsu and Meijiawu, and some Shifeng Longjing teas are comparable to the price of vintage wine. Its taste is no less than that of vintage wine. China, with the longest history in tea, also has the largest number of tea varieties in the world.
