About Ying De Black Tea (英徳紅茶)

Yingde, the production area of Ying De Black Tea, is located in the southern part of the mountainous area in the northern part of Guangdong Province, China with warm and rainy climate, excellent soil conditions and unique natural resources, which is very suitable for growing black tea and is called ‘the home of black tea in the world’. Ying De Black Tea, which was first produced by machine in Ying De in 1959, was approved for protection of geographical indication products in 2006, passed the application for registration of the certification mark in 2010, was added to the first batch of the ‘China-EU100+100’ list of mutually recognised and mutually protected geographical indications in 2020, and will become a ‘Guangdong Excellent Products of Guangdong Province - the first batch of ‘High Quality Geographical Indications of Guangdong Province’ in 2021.

This black tea originates from a large-leaved variety of Yunnan called Yunnan Daba Zhong, which was planted in Guangdong Province since that time and is made from tea tree No. 9. As a result of research by the Guangdong Provincial Tea Research Institute, new varieties were bred and named Yinghong No. 9, Yinghong Jiuhao and Ying De Black Tea.

Its main characteristics are ‘thick extract, rich flavour and lasting aroma’, with a tight and fine shape, firm body, uniform and beautiful. When the tea is brewed, the leaves turn the water a bright red colour and the brewed tea has a peppery flavour with a subtle sweetness at the end. The brewed tea has a rich, intense flavour, reminiscent of dark chocolate, caramel, nuts and port wine. No matter how long it has been brewed, it remains smooth and mellow. Mixing with milk and sugar allows you to enjoy the fascinating colour, taste and aroma of black tea.
