Yenbai White Tea

This white tea is made from only selected buds in Suoi Giang, Yen Bai Province, northern Vietnam.

It is carefully crafted with excellence, wilted in the sun for a long time, then further wilted indoors, gently stirred and withered. Wild tea trees grow between 1,300 and 1,400 metres above sea level, with ethnic minority families living nearby for hundreds of years.

This white tea is elegant and complex, with a symphony of aromas ranging from honeysuckle to melon and a pleasantly sweet flavour. It has body and a smooth, sweet aftertaste.

About Yenbai

Located in the north-west region of Vietnam, about 200 km from the capital Hanoi, Yen Bai Province has some of the most beautiful rice terraces in Vietnam, called Mou Can Chai. Being home to many ethnic minorities, it also has a unique and rich traditional culture and customs, and tea cultivation is also done by the ethnic minorities.

Located at an altitude of nearly 1,400 metres, Suoi Giang (Van Trang District, Yen Bai Province) is at the end of a winding but fascinating road. There, some of the oldest tea trees in Vietnam appear.

In Yen Bai, the Hmong are numerous and form a culture unique to this north-western region, especially in Suoi Giang, where their presence is associated with the early emergence of the Shan Tuyet (the tea variety studied by Jem Katze). The unique flavour and shape of the trees have also led to many thrilling anecdotes about the Suoi Jiang tea trees.

The ancient Shan Tuyet tea in Suoi Jiang has traditionally been considered the best tea in the country's tea-growing regions.

The tea trees here are more than 300 years old. Their trunks and buds are so large that they stand apart from other teas.
